Plans and Pricing
Plans
Embrace offers various coverage levels for their accident and illness plans to suit different pet owner needs. Their main plan operates on a reimbursement model for treatments unrelated to pre-existing conditions, with options to customize via three reimbursement rates, five deductible choices, and five coverage limits. They also provide an accident-only plan featuring a fixed $100 deductible, a $5,000 coverage limit, and a 90% reimbursement rate.
Pet owners can add the wellness rewards program—an optional, non-insurance benefit that covers microchipping and vaccinations, reimbursing up to $650 annually. This program helps with routine care budgeting but isn’t available in Rhode Island.
Pricing
Embrace’s basic accident and illness plans are affordable, starting at around $7/month for cats and $14/month for dogs. However, adding the wellness program can significantly increase monthly costs, sometimes tripling the premium, with limited additional benefits.
Note that there’s a one-time $25 enrollment fee and a $1 monthly fee if the annual premium isn’t paid upfront.
Waiting Periods
Coverage begins shortly after signing up, with a 2-day waiting period for the policy to be active. Illness coverage requires a 14-day waiting period before benefits start, aligning with industry standards. Some orthopedic conditions may have longer waiting or exclusion periods depending on the state.
Exclusions and Coverage Limits
- Pre-existing Conditions: Not covered, but Embrace provides a free medical history review to identify any conditions that might be excluded. Pet owners can cancel within 30 days if pre-existing conditions are flagged.
- Coverage Limits: No unlimited plans are offered. However, coverage limits can go up to $30,000 annually for pets with frequent injuries, which may result in higher premiums.
Claims and Customer Service
Embrace streamlines claims by providing personalized claim forms accessible online and via their app. Processing typically takes 10 to 15 business days, with reimbursements issued through check or direct deposit.
Support options are mainly via email and phone, but they also offer a 24/7 health line for urgent medical or behavioral assistance, available through video chat, web, or phone.
